Jewellery engraving: wedding rings, rings, pendants and bracelets
COOLASER, a laser workshop in Gaeta (LT), offers a jewellery engraving service on wedding rings and rings, tags, pendants and bracelets in gold, silver and steel, with names, dates, symbols or designs. It polishes jewellery and cleans it ultrasonically, without engraving too. It works for private individuals and jewellers. The price is requested through the online request form.
Jewellery engraving: what it is and when it is needed
Laser jewellery engraving traces text and designs on metal with a beam of light, without a burin and without touching the piece, leaving a crisp mark even in small characters. It is used to personalise a gift, commemorate a date or add a name to a family heirloom.
COOLASER works with four laser sources: COâ‚‚, diode, fibre (MOPA included) and UV; on jewellery metals the right source is fibre. The mark can be a dark surface marking or a deep engraving that can be felt to the touch. For a day of live personalisation in a shop there is the Laser Live service. Engraved tags and bracelets are among the workshop's laser-engraved personalised items. The engravings are made in Italy, in the COOLASER workshop, and the jewellery travels by shipping, throughout Italy and abroad.
Wedding ring and ring engraving
Wedding bands are engraved with the couple's names, the wedding date or a short phrase, on the outside or the inside of the ring; rings with initials, symbols and small designs. The inside can be engraved on wedding bands and rings of any size, with no minimum diameter, but each piece needs a dedicated machine set-up. Text, typeface and position are agreed before engraving.
Small characters and fingerprints
The laser engraves characters as small as about 0.6 mm in height; for comfortable reading with the naked eye at least 2 mm is recommended. On request a fingerprint taken from a photo can also be engraved, for example the partner's on the inside of the wedding band.
Gold and silver engraving
Gold and silver are engraved with the fibre laser: yellow, white and rose gold, silver and stainless steel too. On plated, gilded or rhodium-plated jewellery the engraving may expose the metal beneath the surface layer, which has a different colour. On stainless steel colour marking is also possible.
Tag and pendant engraving
Tags and pendants are engraved on one or both sides, with names, dates, initials, symbols or small designs. Common gifts are a tag with a child's name and a pet tag for a collar, with name and phone number. Tags and pendants can be brought by the customer, or the workshop makes or supplies them on request, without a fixed catalogue.
Bracelet engraving
Bracelets are engraved on the plate or on the surface of bangles, the inside included, with names, dates, coordinates or a short phrase. Metal bracelets and leather bracelets with a plate are both worked.
Jewellery polishing and ultrasonic cleaning
COOLASER polishes jewellery and cleans it ultrasonically, after engraving or as a service in its own right.
Jewellery polishing
Jewellery polishing restores the shine of dull metal and reduces surface scratches on wedding bands, rings and bracelets. On plated or rhodium-plated jewellery polishing can thin the surface layer.
Ultrasonic jewellery cleaning
Ultrasonic cleaning is a wash in a liquid bath in which sound waves form microbubbles that loosen dirt from settings, chains and engravings. Pearls, opals, emeralds, coral and treated or glued stones must not go in the ultrasonic cleaner, so the piece is checked before washing. For small workshop metal parts there is the page on metal finishing.
Metals
The jewellery metals that can be engraved are:
- Gold: yellow, white and rose, also plated or rhodium-plated.
- Silver.
- Stainless steel.

How it works
A jewellery engraving is ordered in four steps:
- Request: the form states the piece of jewellery, metal, text and lead time, with a photo of the piece.
- Quote: the workshop prepares the price and agrees text, font and position.
- Jewellery: it reaches the workshop by shipping; on request it can be handed in personally, by appointment.
- Delivery: after engraving and any polishing or cleaning, the jewellery goes back by shipping, or, on request, collection from the workshop.
What to prepare
A quote for engraving a piece of jewellery needs the exact text, with capitals, accents and dates in the format required, and a photo of the piece. A fingerprint needs a sharp, well-lit photo of the print. A symbol or design needs a vector file (SVG, AI, EPS or PDF) or a sharp image (PNG, JPG, WEBP or HEIC). The form accepts up to 10 files, 20 MB each and 30 MB in total.
