Permanent industrial traceability with laser marking

Laser marking is the most reliable technology for permanent identification of industrial components. Serial numbers, batch codes, production dates and alphanumeric serials engraved directly onto the part surface — no labels that peel off, no inks that fade, no stamping that deforms the material. The mark remains readable throughout the component's entire service life, resistant to oils, solvents, extreme temperatures and aggressive environments. We work on stainless steel, aluminium, brass, titanium and engineering plastics including ABS, POM and PEEK.

Why laser for serial numbers

Concrete advantages over stamping, pad printing and adhesive labels

Permanent for the life of the part

The laser marks or darkens the surface without removing significant material. The serial number remains readable after years of use in industrial environments, aggressive washing and continuous handling.

Identical on every piece in the batch

Laser marking is digital and repeatable. Every part in the batch receives the same mark with the same precision, with no quality variation between the first and last piece produced.

Readable by automated systems

Laser-marked serial numbers, 1D barcodes, QR codes and DataMatrix codes are readable by optical scanners and MES/ERP systems for automatic production and warehouse traceability.

On your material or ours

Ship us your components: we mark them and ship them back. Or we supply the raw material. We handle both solutions with agreed turnaround times and costs.

OUR WORK

Our laser markings

Production traceability

Serial numbers and batch codes on components

Marking of progressive, alphanumeric or custom-structured serial numbers on finished or semi-finished components. Compatible with any traceability system: each part receives a unique code readable optically or visually. We work on stainless steel, aluminium, brass, titanium and technical alloys. DXF files, CSV for serialised batches or text specifications accepted.

Machine-readable codes

QR codes and DataMatrix directly on the part

Laser marking of QR codes, DataMatrix codes and 1D barcodes on metal and plastic surfaces. High data density in small spaces. Guaranteed readability with any industrial scanner even after prolonged exposure to aggressive environments. Used for predictive maintenance, asset management and supply chain traceability.

Recurring batch management

Serial production with progressive numbering

Management of recurring batches with automatic progressive numbering. The file is set up once, and each repeat updates the serial in sequence without manual input. Ideal for component manufacturers with weekly or monthly recurring production runs. Dedicated pricing for ongoing orders.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Fast TurnaroundTechnical SupportFast QuotesOngoing collaborations
How does laser serial number marking work?

The serial number is engraved directly onto the component surface using a fibre or other lasers, depending on the material. On metal, the laser produces darkening through oxidation (fibre laser annealing) or removes material by ablation. The result is permanent, readable visually and by optical scanners, without adding any external material such as inks or labels.

Can you mark components with progressive serialization?

Yes, this is one of our most requested services. We manage batches with automatic progressive numbering: provide the starting number and code structure, and each part receives the next serial in sequence. For recurring batches, the file is saved and each repeat updates the numbering automatically without needing to send us a new file.

How much space is needed on the component for a serial number?

It depends on the code type. A visually readable alphanumeric serial requires approximately 5-8mm minimum character height. A QR code or DataMatrix can be engraved in spaces as small as 5x5mm with sufficient data density for most industrial applications. For parts with very limited space, we always evaluate a sample before proceeding with production.

Does laser serial marking survive subsequent surface treatments?

It depends on the treatment. Laser marking on stainless steel withstands washing, oils, solvents and high temperatures without issue. On aluminium, if the part is subsequently anodised or painted, marking must be done after the treatment. For passivation, bluing and other processes we evaluate on a case-by-case basis: in many situations laser marking survives post-processing treatments.
